Locally restored plane to be featured at air show in Wisconsin

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local group has worked on restoring a plane for years, and now their work is paying off as that plane will be shown at AirVenture, one of the world’s biggest air shows in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The Curtiss Robin is a plane modeled after the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane Charles Lindbergh flew over the Atlantic in the 1920s.

It was one of the first models to feature actual doors on the side of the plane, as prior to that, pilots had to climb over the top to get in.

After working for years to restore this plane, they’re excited for the world to get to see it up close and personal.

“We’re going to be featured all week long, which is very exciting to us because normally an airplane may be featured for a day or two, but they’re very excited about what this represents in the American aviation story, and we’re very, very happy as a nonprofit, all volunteer group to bring that story to them,” Dorian Walker with Friends of Vintage Flight, the group that restored the plane, says.

It will be featured at the show starting July 22nd, and Walker is set to be featured as one of the guest speakers at the show to talk about the process.
