FRANKLIN, Ky. – A Portland, Tennessee man is facing shoplifting charges after police say he stole Pokémon cards from a Simpson County Walmart.

According to a uniform citation, the Franklin Police Department received a complaint Thursday afternoon about a male subject hiding merchandise in his pockets.

Officers say 30-year-old Perry Neisz of Portland was seen hiding Pokémon cards in his jacket before trying to leave without paying.

Police say when confronted by an employee, Neisz dropped the items and ran to his vehicle.

Officers say dispatch then advised that Neisz was fleeing south toward them. Authorities say they spotted Neisz and turned on their emergency lights and siren.

According to police, Neisz then pulled over at U.S. 31-W and Peden Mill Road.

Police say when asked about the incident at Walmart, Neisz stated he did not steal anything.

When Neisz was ordered out of the vehicle, police say he was wearing a jacket that matched the description of the suspect’s clothing with pockets stuffed full of something.

During a search, police say they pulled out 34 packages of Pokémon cards valued at just over $165.

Neisz was arrested, and a vehicle search ensued.

Police say they found two bags full of more Pokémon cards. Neisz stated they were bought at a Target in Tennessee, according to authorities.

Officers say they also found a glass methamphetamine pipe.

Neisz remains at the Simpson County Jail on charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition (shoplifting), receiving stolen property, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license and third-degree criminal trespassing.
