Bowling Green man charged in Speedway robbery
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is facing multiple charges following a robbery at a local Speedway gas station.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded just after 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24 to Speedway at 1220 Broadway Ave. for a reported robbery happening.
Authorities say an employee on site called in and described the male that had stolen merchandise.
Police say the caller stated that when the suspect was confronted, he started “smashing things,” becoming aggressive and hitting an employee.
Upon arrival, police say they observed a male matching the description walking away and identified him as 32-year-old Patrick Franklin of Bowling Green.
Police say they asked Franklin to stop, and he refused to follow orders. Officers say they told Franklin to stop resisting or a taser would be deployed.
After trying multiple times to detain Franklin, police say a taser was deployed. Franklin was placed into custody.
Authorities say Franklin stole two items from Speedway and had damaged a credit card reader.
Franklin remains at the Warren County Regional Jail on charges of second-degree robbery, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, harassment – physical contact – no injury and third-degree fleeing or evading police.
