Todd County recovering after tornado aftermath

ELKTON, Ky. – One local county is recovering from tornado damage.

The City of Elkton and Todd County is a quaint, friendly area southwest of Bowling Green, Kentucky. This past Friday evening, disaster struck.

A confirmed EF-2 tornado blew through the region. According to the National Weather Service, winds reached 120 miles per hour causing extensive damage.

Chief Steven Weaver of Allegre Fire Department says he was amazed by citizens in the area. He credits the people of Todd County, among the destruction, truly lended a helping hand. Weaver reveals that “over 150 volunteers” came together on Saturday following the storm. He adds that several people have “donated food and water” to clean up crews.

This tornado was said to begin a county west, Christian County. The tornado traveled only 6 miles before reaching Todd County.

The majority of the damage occured on Blue Hole Road. The storm’s path completely destroyed a locally-owned poultry farm.

Despite the damage, leaders in the area are embracing what has shown abundantly from the storm. This is the outpour from the community.

Weaver says his responsibility is to “help the community.” He believes no one has to have an official role to contribute.
