Center for Accessible Living in Bowling Green looking to help woman transition to independent living
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — A local woman who lost nearly everything in the December 2021 tornadoes is asking for the community’s help as she begins a new chapter in her life.
Mahira Besic survived the deadly storm, but the night changed her life forever: she lost half her family, and was left paralyzed from the waist down.
Since then, Besic has spent much of her time in and out of nursing homes. Now, she’s transitioning to independent living for the first time since the tornadoes.
To help her settle into a new apartment, the Center for Accessible Living in Bowling Green is stepping in, and they’re asking the community to join them.
“We believe coming together to support her will not only help meet her basic needs but also boost her mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being,” said Lindsey Chaffin-Scott, manager of the Center.
Besic is in need of essential items like furniture, food and financial assistance. While the Center is helping to set up her apartment, they’re counting on local support to provide the rest.
Donations can be dropped off at the Center for Accessible Living on Destiny Lane in Bowling Green. Pickup options are also available for larger items.
