Green River Ferry Road South to close temporarily for ferry vessel transport

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – Drivers in the Mammoth Cave National Park area will want to be aware of a temporary road closure on Tuesday.
According to park officials, Green River Ferry Road South in Mammoth Cave National Park will close from its intersection with Mammoth Cave Parkway to the Green River Ferry parking area from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Officials say the closure will allow for the transport of the ferry to a storage area for inspection and maintenance work.
Joppa Ridge Road, Echo River Spring Trail and the Green River canoe and kayak access ramp will not be accessible during the closure.
Mammoth Cave National Park says it will repaint the ferry and perform maintenance to the engine and operating systems.
In addition, the park says the project to design and repair the navigational system is expected to still take several months to complete.
Green River Ferry Road North will not be affected by the road closure and will remain open to all vehicles to Maple Springs Campground, including recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers. Only passenger vehicles are permitted past Maple Springs Campground.
