Former Caverna basketball coach, teacher charged with criminal abuse

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – A former Caverna High School basketball coach and special education teacher has been arrested on several charges.

According to jail records, 37-year-old Terrence Miles was arrested Friday, May 2 on charges of first-degree criminal abuse, second-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree official misconduct.

The arrest follows Miles’ resignation from his positions with Caverna Independent Schools.

Amanda Abell, superintendent of Caverna Independent Schools, provided an update on Miles’ resignation Friday morning after a video circulated on social media that featured the coach.

Abell stated, “Following a thorough review and interviews with all witnesses involved, I met with the teacher this morning to terminate his employment. At the start of the meeting, the teacher submitted his resignation. A copy of his statement is attached. Both students involved in the incident have also been disciplined in accordance with school policy.”

“We sincerely regret that this incident occurred and are committed to ensuring student safety remains our highest priority.”

Abell later released the following regarding this situation:

“We are cooperating with the local law enforcement and Department for Community Based Services, but I am unable to comment on their investigation.”

Miles currently remains at the Hart County Jail with no bond. He is scheduled to appear in court May 5.
