Rich Pond Elementary hosts Derby Day
WARREN COUNTY, Ky.- With the Kentucky Derby approaching, many local schools are finding creative ways to celebrate the event.
At Rich Pond Elementary, teachers are bringing the excitement of the Derby into the classroom.
Educators are teaching students about the history of the Kentucky Derby through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, including a student-friendly “horse race.”
These experiences also give students a chance to collaborate with their parents in fun and educational ways. First-grade teacher Katelyn Mosley emphasized the importance of making learning enjoyable.
She said, “It just shows the kids that they’re important, that their voice matters, and that history can be fun.”
The school hosted its own version of the Derby, giving students a memorable way to connect with the tradition.
At the end of the celebration, student winners were awarded roses, just like the real Derby champions.
