Simpson Co. Emergency Management discusses life jacket program
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As days get longer and warmer, water safety is important for summer activities.
The World Health Organization reported around 300,000 annual water related deaths worldwide. The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is partnering with counties across the Commonwealth as part of the Life Jacket Loaner Station Program.
Simpson County Emergency Management supplied life jackets to stations for the new boating season. These are located at Drakes Creek near Highway 73 and Barnes School Road.
Robert Palmer, the director of the county’s office, shares the importance of safety on the water. He wants others to utilize these resources.
Palmer is hopeful that by doing so, “day[s] of fun and memory making doesn’t turn into tragedy.”
Palmer reminds others that it is a Kentucky State Law to wear a lifejacket while in the water. He encourages water goers to return them to the stations after use.
