OAKLAND, Ky. – A Bowling Green man has been arrested after authorities say he was driving under the influence.

According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police was dispatched at 6:41 p.m. Wednesday to a call for a vehicle that ran off of the roadway and into a ditch on Interstate 65 in Oakland.

Authorities say KSP Post 3 received multiple calls about the incident.

Upon arrival, troopers say they observed a vehicle at the 32-mile marker northbound had left the roadway and struck a tree.

Authorities say the driver, identified as 34-year-old Matthew Higdon of Bowling Green, seemed dazed or confused and was slumped over the steering wheel.

According to troopers, Higdon stated he had fallen asleep and left the roadway.

Higdon was unsteady on his feet upon exiting the vehicle, authorities say.

Troopers say Higdon confirmed he had taken suboxone and methamphetamine within the past 24 hours.

Higdon was arrested and transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for clearance, where authorities say he was yelling and causing a disturbance. He was later taken to the Warren County Regional Jail.

Higdon faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, first offense (aggravated circumstances), reckless driving, failure of owner to maintain required insurance/security, first offense, failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation and first-degree disorderly conduct.
