Logan County man honored for 55 years of service
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Logan County communication is celebrating the service of Maxie Rittenberry.
Maxie has been with the Logan County Search and Rescue for over five decades. He still drives the original van from the team’s early days.
He first joined the Logan County SAR in 1970 after serving in the United States Army. Maxie serves as the Assistant Chief of Logan County Search and Rescue, which he has upheld this role for many years.
Terry Cole, Chief of LCSAR, says he sees Maxie as a mentor and an inspiration. Cole praises Maxie for his giving heart, saying “he’s always there for you when you need him.”
This past weekend, Maxie was recognized for his service. County Judge Executive Phil Baker also proclaimed March 22nd as Maxie Rittenberry Day in Logan County.
Outside of this role, Maxie loves to hang out with his pups, restores cars, and even has his own lawn business. Maxie says he has no plans of retiring any time soon. He is hopeful to “help out” for “another five years.”
Maxie will turn 90-years-old next week. This makes him the oldest rescue squad member in the state.
