WKU Grad appears on NBC’s The Voice

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For many aspiring musicians, stepping onto the stage of The Voice is a dream come true. Kentucky native Jordan Allen had that very experience as he auditioned for NBC’s hit singing competition.

“I was incredibly nervous,” Allen admitted. “But I was filled with a sense of peace just knowing that I do not have enough power to affect God’s will. So if it was His will for there to be a chair turn, there would be. And if there wasn’t, they wouldn’t turn the chair. So I rested in that for sure.”

Fortunately for Allen, not just one, but two chairs turned during his audition. Music legends Michael Bublé and John Legend both vied for the talented singer to join their team. After careful consideration, Allen chose Team Legend.

“He made a pitch to me that just made so much sense,” Allen said. “I pride myself in my work ethic, and his pitch—if you watch it—he’s the only one that gave me constructive criticism at all. I’m on The Voice to get better, and I want to work hard and improve. His pitch made me gravitate toward him because of that.”

Allen is no stranger to the Bowling Green music scene. A proud graduate of Western Kentucky University, he credits his time there for shaping his career.

“I loved my time at Western. I love Bowling Green. I get to pass through pretty often,” Allen said. “It definitely shaped my musical career. There’s such a rich music history in Bowling Green already, with Cage The Elephant and other bands. Getting to hear that kind of music live at venues like Tidball’s definitely influenced the way I write music.”

With his band, Jordan Allen and The Bellwethers, Allen performed at several venues across Bowling Green, earning a dedicated local following. Many fans are eager to see him return to the stage in his old stomping grounds.

“I would love that,” Allen said. “It’s not on the calendar, but I would love to be back in Bowling Green anytime.”

As Allen embarks on his journey with Team Legend, his supporters in Kentucky and beyond will be cheering him on, eager to see how far he goes on The Voice and beyond.
