Land purchase closed on for new Kyrock Elementary
SWEEDEN, Ky. – A land purchase has been closed on for a new Kyrock Elementary coming to Edmonson County.
According to Edmonson County Schools superintendent Brian Alexander, the land purchase was closed on on Feb. 7.
Alexander says the property, which consists of 61 acres, will be located directly across from the current Kyrock Elementary on Highway 259 North.
District officials say construction is set to begin in early summer 2025. According to Alexander, the targeted date for students to occupy the building is August 2027.
Alexander says the decision to build a new Kyrock Elementary was inspired for a need for a bigger facility.
He says the current elementary school will not be demolished but instead repurposed. Further details on that development will be released at a later date.
Starting in the 2027-28 school year, Alexander says both the new Kyrock Elementary and South Edmonson Elementary will become pre-K through sixth grade. As a result, he says they will phase out the Edmonson 5/6 Center.
In addition to these updates, Alexander says the district just finished a $10 million renovation on their vocational center.
News 40 will continue to provide updates on these projects as they become available.
