Toys For Tots supporting veterans in nursing homes

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Toys for Tots has been serving the community for many decades, especially those most vulnerable in our community, and now they holding a year long collection for military hats that will then be donated to local vets in nursing homes.

Toys for Tots started a program offering donations of items that range from hygiene products to Hot Wheels cars for those in nursing homes.

During their donations, they learned that vets in these homes love receiving military hats. Now, they are asking the public to donate new or gently used military hats that will then be donated to vets in nursing homes.

“They may have served in the Vietnam War, which was many years ago, you know, late ’60s, early ’70s. But they’re still serving our community. They’re still attending those American Legion meetings, those Marine Corps League meetings, those AMVET meetings and VFW meetings. And they’re still trying to have an impact on our community. They’re still wanting to serve their service and sacrifice never ended. And so the least we can do is help those veterans,” said Toys for Tots coordinator Janel Doyle.

You can donate your hats to the retired flag box outside the front door of the American Legion at 208 Dishman Lane.
