WKU basketball player charged with DUI
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Western Kentucky University Men’s Basketball player was arrested over the weekend for driving while under the influence.
Head coach Hank Plona said at WKU Basketball’s media availability Tuesday, “We released a statement, but what I will add is that decision does not resemble who Jack is as a person.”
WKU Athletics has issued the following statement:
“We are aware of the situation regarding Jack Edelen and are addressing it internally. WKU will have no further comment at this time.”
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department observed a black Lincoln sedan stopped for an extended duration of time around 2:26 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Alumni Drive and Adams Street.
Police say the vehicle then turned onto Adams Street then slowly cross the center line before jerking back into the correct lane several times.
After initiating a traffic stop, police say they made contact with the driver, identified as Jack Edelen, 20, of Louisville.
Police say Edelen did not provide proof of insurance during the stop.
After field sobriety testing, Edelen was placed into custody and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail, where he has since been released.
Edelen is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance/security, first offense.
Edelen will not be traveling this week for the Tops road games at Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State.
