Winter Field Day event to show importance of amateur radio during inclement weather
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Colonels Amateur Radio Club has announced its participation in 2025 Winter Field Day on Jan. 26.
The annual event is designed to improve emergency communication skills and show the resilience of amateur radio under challenging weather conditions.
Winter Field Day invites amateur radio operators across North America to try out setting up portable radio communication stations in environments to simulate emergency scenarios.
This year, the Kentucky Colonels will operate from the Warren County Senior Citizens Center in Ephram White Park in Bowling Green. The event will kick off at noon on Saturday, Jan. 25 and end at noon on Sunday, Jan. 26.
“The Winter Field Day event is an excellent opportunity for our club to showcase the importance of amateur radio in emergency response while sharpening our technical and operating skills,” said J. Pat Stewart, president of the Kentucky Colonels Amateur Radio Club. “Our members are looking forward to engaging with the community and demonstrating how amateur radio provides critical communication when other systems fail.”
The public is invited to attend this event, and visitors are encouraged to learn about radio operations while present. Participants can try different types of communication, including voice, digital and Morse code to make contact with other operators across the nation.
Club members will also highlight the essential role amateur radio plays in emergency preparedness and disaster response.
