Family of drunk driving victim spreads awareness in hopes of saving lives
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Early in March of this year, Western Kentucky University student Kinsley DeMontigny was killed by a drunk driver in a head-on collision on Interstate 165.
Now, nearly 10 months after her death, her parents, Lori and Gerald DeMontigny, are doing what they can to try and save a life. Hooked to a trailer behind their truck is her yellow Dodge Charger that was wrecked in the accident, making both a statement and bringing awareness to drinking and driving.
“We talked about it every day. And just what could we do? How can we how can we go on? You know, it’s just hard to let her go. And so it was a way to keep her memory alive but also to help others,” Gerald and Lori said.
Through The KiND Foundation, the DeMontigny’s are working to save as many lives as possible by bringing reality to those who may think about making the wrong decision, and they say this goal is a lifelong commitment.
“Forever. Forever. As long as we can. If it can save one person. If it, if somebody had done this and made a difference and had saved my child, it would be worth everything. So if I can save someone in your family, save one of your friends, because, you know, it’s one death. It’s like a ripple effect. It leaves a huge ripple” Lori DeMontigny said.
