Scottsville Warming Tree provides relief for those in need
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – As temperatures drop, a Warming Tree in Scottsville is offering much-needed relief to those in need.
Inspired by a similar project in Bowling Green, Teddi Moore, a member of Scottsville’s First United Methodist Church, started the process of starting the project to provide warm clothing and essentials to the community during the winter months.
The Warming Tree stands in a central location on East Main Street at the First United Methodist Church across from the post office, making it easily accessible for anyone who needs it.
The motto for the project is simple: “Leave what you can, take what you need.”
“We definitely have members of the community who bring things. I came out one morning, and the line was absolutely full, There wasn’t room for anything else.”, Moore explained how the community has stepped up to support the project. “One of our community members had fully stocked the line with hats, scarves, gloves, coats, blankets.”, she added.
Moore and others regularly check the tree, adding items as needed, and she’s already seen its impact firsthand.
The Scottsville Warming Tree is available throughout the winter months, from November through April, and donations are always welcome at the Scottsville First United Methodist Church at 400 East Main Street.
