Drivers get cash instead of a ticket for Christmas

GLASGOW, Ky. – Imagine getting pulled over and instead of getting ticket, the police hand you money.

Lights and sirens don’t usually come with good news, but Tuesday night, that’s exactly what drivers got.

River Lake Church partnered with the Glasgow Police Department for the fourth year in a row so that officers could hand out $100 bills to unsuspecting drivers.

“We believe as a church that we want to help people out. People that may not have hope in their life and we want to give them an opportunity to take the money and do something with it,” said Robbie Birdsell, River Lake Church.

WNKY was invited to ride along during the Christmas surprise.

The initiative allows officers to interact with the community in a different and more positive light.

People’s reactions ranged from speechless to giggles to tears upon receiving the gift.

“This is amazing, and I didn’t know that this happened here, I mean, people talk about it but this is wonderful,” one recipient said.

Police gave away $2,400 during traffic stops instead of a ticket in just one day through this initiative called “Let Hope In.”
