Beshear awards more than $2.1 million to help survivors of domestic violence
FRANKFORT, Ky. – On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear awarded over $2.1 million to benefit Kentucky survivors of domestic violence.
According to a release by the governor’s office, a total of $2,118,743 will go to 30 organizations across the Commonwealth, including Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. and Hope Harbor, Inc. in Bowling Green.
The release says the funding is awarded from the federal Violence Against Women Act grant program, which focuses on stopping sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
“Today’s announcement is important to me because we’re making progress on protecting victims of violent crimes – and helping more people feel safe in their community,” Beshear said. “We are doing everything possible to hold offenders accountable and provide resources survivors need.”
Funds can be allocated to a variety of organizations, from law enforcement and prosecutors to victim services and state and local courts.
