Warren County Public Library to welcome Sacred Arts Tour

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Public Library is welcoming a cultural experience to the Bowling Green area during this year’s Sacred Arts Tour.
During the event, Tibetan monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery will be at the Bob Kirby Branch Library to construct a World Peace sand mandala.
The five-day event will start with an opening ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at noon and end with a closing ceremony on Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. that will start at the Bob Kirby Branch and end at RiverWalk at Mitch McConnell Park.
The library says the public can also attend a cultural pageant at the Capitol on Nov. 18 at 6 pm., where attendees can see ancient Tibetan cultural rituals, including the Snow Lion dance Good Luck dance, and the Monk dance. The pageant will also feature sacred chants, prayers and a monastic debate.
Those that wish to see the creation of the sand mandala can visit the Bob Kirby Branch on the following dates:
- Tuesday, November 19: noon to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 20: noon to 7 p.m.
- Thursday, November 21: noon to 7 p.m.
- Friday, November 22: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Following the closing ceremony on Nov. 23, the library says the monks will lead a procession to RiverWalk to pour the sand into the Barren River, “symbolizing the dispersal of blessings throughout the community.”
