Día De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is today!

Once Halloween is over, it’s time to celebrate the Day of the Dead. The deeply cherished Mexican holiday honors the memories of loved ones who have died.

It’s usually celebrated on November 1 and 2. The 1st is dedicated to remembering infants and babies and the second to everyone else. Family members usually set up altars at the gravesides of their loved ones.

The site is normally decorated with marigolds, incense, and candles. Favorite foods and drinks of the dead are put on the altars to welcome their souls back.

The Day of the Dead used to be celebrated in the summer, but it was changed to coincide with Halloween.
