Bear dead after reportedly entering Harlan County field house

HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says a bear is dead after it reportedly entered a Harlan County field house.
According to authorities, troopers were contacted around 9:40 p.m. Thursday regarding a black bear that had accessed the James A. Cawood Field House.
Authorities say a trooper discovered garbage outside of the field house and found a door open. According to authorities, the bear had entered the building and became aggressive, “lunging at the trooper and backing him into a corner.”
Authorities say the trooper shot his firearm, striking the bear to protect himself from harm.
Authorities say Kentucky Fish and Wildlife was notified and responded to the scene.
According to authorities, the trooper involved in the incident was not injured.
Troopers say the bear is dead, and no school property was damaged during the incident.
