WKU Soccer: Davis, Wiedermann earn CUSA weekly honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Soccer had two student-athletes Maddie Davis and Abby Wiedermann have earned weekly Conference USA honors. Davis was named CUSA Goalkeeper of the Week and Wiedermann was named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week.
Davis secured her sixth clean sheet of the season on Sunday against first-place FIU. The Waterloo, Illinois native is tied for the most shutouts on the season in CUSA and has the third most saves in the league. In conference play, Davis has the best goals against average (0.625), save percentage (87.5) and is tied for the most shutouts (5). Davis’ 14 career clean sheets are tied for the third most in WKU history.
Wiedermann played a major part in the shutout tie at FIU on Sunday. The freshman was assigned to FIU’s Noemi Paquin, the league’s leading goal scorer who has scored 10 goals in conference play and is averaging over three shots on goal per game in CUSA play. Wiedermann held Paquin to no goals and just one shot on goal and kept Paquin out of the flow of the game with her coverage.
The Hilltoppers host Sam Houston on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. to close out the regular season. WKU has major postseason implications coming into the match.
