Bowling Green native Rowdy Shea takes the stage on ‘The Voice’

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green’s own Rowdy Shea is making waves as the newest contestant on NBC’s “The Voice.”

In a recent interview with News 40, Shea expressed his excitement about the opportunity, saying, “It’s been a lot going on, but I’m blessed and super excited that it’s all happening.”

After his episode aired, viewers were thrilled to see Shea secure not one but two chair turns from the judges. He shared that the entire process has been an incredible experience, saying, “Everyone there knows exactly what they’re doing, and they put us in the best light to showcase us as artists. It was a blessing to work with such talented people.”

Shea grew up in Bowling Green and attended South Warren High School, where he fondly recalls winning two state titles under Coach Smith.

Reflecting on his upbringing, he said, “We had the quintessential upbringing in Bowling Green, and we’re proud to be from here.”

His passion for music began around the age of 20 when his mother encouraged him to pursue his dreams. “I was at a crossroads in my life, and she told me to pick something and go for it,” Shea recalled. After taking a vocal lesson, he fell in love with singing and quickly picked up the guitar.

Shea recently celebrated his marriage, and his wife joined him on stage during his performance. She was thrilled to help him choose Gwen Stefani as his coach, noting that her Oklahoma roots, being married to Oklahoma native and country music artist, Blake Shelton, influenced her choice. “She was ecstatic,” Shea said. “Gwen is new to Oklahoma but has that fiery attitude just like the rest of the Oklahomans.”

Looking ahead, Shea is focused on preparing for the battle rounds on “The Voice” while continuing to pursue opportunities to perform and grow his music career. “My goal is to become a touring artist, and I’m determined to reach that,” he said.

For aspiring artists in Bowling Green, Shea has a powerful message: “Just do it. Whatever’s on your mind, go for it. Keep God at the forefront of your heart and mind. If you can answer yes to those questions about living a good life, then keep moving forward. Everything’s okay; nothing’s falling apart.”

Shea’s journey on “The Voice” is just beginning, and the community is cheering him on as he strives to make his mark in the music industry.
