LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A leader of a local nonprofit is being recognized for his role in improving the well being of the community.

Tim Allen, president of Southern Kentucky Patriots, is this year’s region 4 winner of WellCare Kentucky’s fifth annual Community Health Champions Awards at Churchill Downs, according to a release by WellCare on Monday.

Allen started SOKY Patriots in 2019, the release says, aiming to reduce the obstacles for veterans, low income and individuals with disabilities.

However, Allen’s assistance extends beyond there.

According to the release, Allen has also piloted a food backpack initiative to help ensure children in Warren County do not go hungry each weekend.

“I see our Community Health Champions as examples of the best of Kentucky,” said WellCare of Kentucky Plan president Corey Ewing. “Each of these individuals and organizations has worked to ensure that Kentuckians are physically, emotionally and mentally healthy – and they did it in deeply personal ways, giving their time, talent and heart in the process.”

This year’s winners were selected from more than 250 nominations across the state, according to the release.

WellCare says it awarded a $3,000 grant to each regional winner and a $5,000 grant to the statewide winner.
