City of Franklin rehabs sidewalks, focused on improving the community

FRANKLIN, Ky. – The community comprehensive plan includes many things for the city of Franklin, one of them being sidewalks.

Recently, the city uncovered a very old brick sidewalk that was still in great condition, which the city estimates is at least 100 years old.

News 40 spoke to the city manager, Kenton Powell, as well as GIS administrator Jon Zambrano.

Powell said in an interview, “Unfortunately, 50 years ago, the city had it right… in our new subdivisions, sidewalks were optional, but now they’re required. People want sidewalks in their neighborhood… ”

Zambrano said after walking the city’s 26 miles of sidewalks, about 13 of those are in good shape, while the rest will need some work over an extended period of time.

The city manager mentioned that not only is the local government putting more money into the walkability of the city but also taking to the streets to engage with citizens on Sept. 23.
