Bowling Green firefighters climb stairs for annual 9/11 memorial
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Fire Department commemorated the fallen firefighters of 9/11.
Twenty-three of our own firemen joined others, matching the total of those lost that day: 343.
Dressed in full gear, they climbed 110 floors in the Tennessee Tower in Nashville to represent the floors of the World Trade Center as part of the annual Memorial Stair Climb.
Chase McKee, a captain at the Bowling Green Fire Department, says, “This is my third year going, and it just tests you a little bit, mentally and physically, but I love it. It’s my one way of being able to show respect to those that lost their lives.”
McKee was in the fifth grade when the planes hit the Twin Towers, but he still remembers being called in from P.E. class that day and learning of the terrorist attacks.
