WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) – The Clark County Public Schools superintendent held a press conference Wednesday after the death of a 15-year-old student that was fatally hit by a school bus on Tuesday morning.

Following the death of 15-year-old McKenna Letcher, WKYT reports there has been an outpouring of support in the community. People want the family to know they are not in this alone.

Dustin Howard, superintendent of Clark County Schools, says, “The entirety of Clark County is gonna wrap around this family, this situation, and again our kids. We’re here for them.”

A community member, Teresa Ayers, says she and her husband put together a cross to bring out for the family.

“Her just being 15, and I have children and grandchildren, so I know it has got to hurt,” Ayers says.

WKYT says there is no street lighting, a crosswalk or a sidewalk where the incident happened.

They spoke with the Clark County sheriff, who said visibility at the time of the accident was never good, despite the color of clothes someone is wearing.

Regardless, McKenna’s death is a tragedy the City of Winchester will remember for years to come.
