Western Kentucky University comments on diversity, equity and inclusion

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After the University of Kentucky announced they are disbanding their Diversity, Equity & Inclusion office after lawmakers debated whether to limit practices at public universities.

We reached out to Western Kentucky University officials to see what practices are present on campus.

While WKU does not have a specific office dedicated to DEI, they have what’s called the One WKU program which helps create a safe and welcoming campus for everyone.

We spoke to officials with WKU, who told us while they may not have this particular office, they still plan to keep an eye on anything that’s being discussed in the future.

“As we do with all legislation that has the potential to affect higher education, we’ll be watching any legislation that might be introduced this upcoming legislative session and assessing what effect, if any, it will have on our operations,” the director of media relations Jace Lux says.

He also says the university aims to assess the needs of every student, no matter how different they are, to make sure everyone is able to get an education.
