GLASGOW, Ky. – Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation is giving back to our community by donating $7,000 to those committed to ending hunger in our area.

The backpack programs of Barren, Hart and Metcalfe counties are each getting $2,000, according to a release by Farmers RECC on Tuesday.

“We understand that hunger is a very real problem for some of our area students,” said Caralyne Pennington, director of member and public communications at Farmers RECC. “If we can help some of those students and the public with that problem, we feel it’s important to do what we can.”

About $120 will feed a student on the weekends for the entire school year, the release states.

In addition, Farmers RECC says it donated $1,000 to the Barren County Reads and Feeds Program, which donates food to local students struggling with food insecurity.
