Signature HealthCare of Bowling Green hangs photos of residents
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The residents of Signature HealthCare of Bowling Green have been surprised by the new artwork decorating the walls of the facility.
The facility is replacing the generic artwork with photographs of their own residents.
One resident shared their reaction to seeing his picture on the wall.
Berry Hayes, resident of Signature Healthcare of BG, says, “Why me? You know, out of all of the people here and people that have been here longer than me, you know, why would they hang my picture up? You know? But I was grateful.”
Devin Dame, administrator at Signature Healthcare of BG, shared why the idea came to life:
“We wanted this to feel like their home because this is their home. So we just thought it was special. And these people are heroes in their lives of getting to see them and them getting to see themselves in their home.”
Debra Baptiste, a resident of Signature Healthcare of BG, said how she thought the photographs impacted the space.
Baptiste says, “Well, I believe it builds the morale, and it makes people feel more welcome, you know, when they see their pictures hanging up on the wall. We’ve got some beautiful staff here, beautiful clients here. It’s making a difference. It’s giving them hope. It’s making them feel special, making them feel alive. It’s giving them a reason for being here. This is their home.”
Deborah Carey, director of nursing at Signature Healthcare of BG, says, “I love it. So just taking their photo in general, what makes them feel even more special than they already are? Seeing them smile and then just anxiously waiting for their photo to get posted up on the wall. We just hung a few more today. I took one of our residents down to see his and the smile on his face was just the best.”
She says they will continue to fill the walls with photographs. Carey says it has made an impact, and it’s important to keep taking pictures of their people.
