Bowling Green East advances to Great Lakes Region Semifinals
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After defeating Michigan by a final score of 7-1 in their opening matchup of the Great Lakes Regional Tournament, Bowling Green East continued dominating on the diamond with a 1-0 shutout of Ohio on Sunday afternoon.
Jake Young started on the mound for East, and kept the Ohio bats quiet, going 3.2 innings scoreless and allowing just one hit.
After 50 pitches, Henry Phillips took over, and he was able to continue the trend for the rest of the game, going 2.1 innings with four strikeouts and allowing no runs and just one hit.
Bowling Green was also held to just two hits for the entire game, but both came in the bottom of the 5th inning, and led to the only run of the contest.
Easton Crawford started the frame with a double into the right field corner, and advanced to third on a fly ball, but with two outs it was Asa Buchanan who legged out an infield single to give East the lead, which they would hold the rest of the game to move to 2-0 in tournament play.
The team now will participate in the semifinal round of the tournament in a matchup with Illinois, which will take place on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. local time.
The game will also be streamed live on ESPN+ for those who are unable to make the trip to Whitestown, Indiana.
