Over 850 volunteers participate in record-breaking Day of Caring

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – United Way of Southern Kentucky is celebrating a new record.
On United Way’s Day of Caring on July 24, more than 850 volunteers joined together, according to a release.
Together, the release says they tackled nearly 90 nonprofit projects throughout southern Kentucky. United Way says this is not only a way to aid nonprofits but also a chance for team building.
“We are truly blown away by this year’s Day of Caring. Our goal every year is to assist more nonprofit agencies in our community, and to have a record number of projects submitted was moving and motivating. At the end of the day, the community stepped up, and we are confident all the projects will be completed, and the impact for nonprofits will be long lasting,” said Debbie Hills, president and CEO of United Way of Southern Kentucky. “To all the organizations’ and individual volunteers, thank you for helping make a difference in our community and assisting so many nonprofit agencies during this year’s Day of Caring.”
After nonprofits throughout the Barren River Area Development District submitted projects for consideration, chosen projects were then matched with volunteers on a first come, first serve basis, the release says.
Projects included yard work, yardwork, painting, organization, cleaning, garden installs, construction, and more, according to the release. Additionally, the release says volunteers delivered a record amount of Kindergarten Readiness kits, with 3,000 early childhood education kits being delivered in the region.
Any projects that were postponed due to weather or other factors will be completed at a later time, according to United Way.
