Kentucky Downs breaks ground on $25 million expansion
FRANKLIN Ky.-Kentucky Downs is known for its horse racing track, casino, and diner. Thanks to an extra $25 million, the facility is getting a major face lift. One that will upgrade the exterior, casino, track, and dining options. A groundbreaking was held to celebrate this achievement.
“It’s just going to be a better experience overall for guests. When they walk in the door, they’re going to have an elevated experience from what they have today for an aesthetics perspective,” said Kentucky Downs co-owner Ron Winchell.
“When people start to envision what’s going to be here, it’s going to be much more exciting, much more fun. Much higher energy taking into consideration the great history of this track,” co-owner Marc Falcone added.
Kentucky downs sees this journey as hitting the jackpot. This big win will add even more to a facility that already drives a lot of traffic. It means more employment opportunities for the surrounding area.
“It makes you feel great being part of something that’s such a winner and has done so much not just for this community, but the entire state,” said Kentucky Downs publicity director Jennie Rees.
An expansion means more opportunities for visitors to roll the dice.
“Building on I think is only going to make it that much greater. You’ll have more choices and more chances to win,” said visitor Shirley Chaffin.
The co-owners said they’re hoping for a butterfly effect leading to even more expansion in the future. In the end, they emphasize that it’s going to be big.
“We do have some interesting an exciting plans beyond both this current phase, the possible hotel, and there will be additional things we work on in the next couple of years,” Falcone said.
The first phase of construction is expected to be complete by the first live race meet in early September.
