Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department discusses prevention of vehicle fires

WOODBURN, Ky. – News 40 recently talked to the Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department, and they’ve told us that they have seen a slight increase in vehicle fires.

Vehicle fires have different ignitions, but Woodburn fire chief Bob Skipper tells us that the two main causes are electrical malfunctions and faulty gas lines.

Vehicle fires can also spread very rapidly, so if you are driving, it is crucial that you exit the car as soon as possible. There are ways to try and prevent these fires, however. Finding a trusted mechanic that can identify problems and correct them is very important. If you are inside a vehicle during a fire, it is important that you exit the vehicle as quickly as possible.

Skipper also tells News 40 to never go back to a burning car. Opening a car door can actually feed the fire more oxygen and cause the fire to grow and spread more rapidly.
