LINWOOD, Ky. – A Goodlettsville, Tennessee man is facing charges after deputies say he assaulted an officer on Sunday in Hart County.

According to a uniform citation, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police responded to the scene of a single-vehicle wreck on the bridge at the 11,000 block of Hammonsville Road in Hart County.

The sheriff’s office says a deputy was heading home when he made contact with William Tyler Balthrop, 24, of Goodlettsville.

Deputies say Balthrop appeared aggressive and was beating his chest as the deputy approached before placing Balthrop in cuffs.

Deputies then had to remove Balthrop from the vehicle since he was beating the glass to the point of potentially breaking it. The sheriff’s office and troopers had to hold Balthrop on the ground until EMS arrived, authorities say.

Balthrop later began clawing at a deputy and grabbing at him.

Balthrop had to be sedated by EMS to be transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, according to deputies.

After medical clearance, Balthrop was transported to the Hart County Detention Center.

He is charged with resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance, first offense, leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance and third-degree assault of a police officer or probation officer.
