Fireworks safety tips during 4th of July and excessive heat

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the 4th of July fast approaching, and with the heat wave, it’s important to make sure you celebrate responsibly.

In Warren County, you can shoot fireworks starting Thursday June 27th through Wednesday July 3rd… and again on the 5th & 6th from 10 AM to 11 PM.

On the 4th, there’s an extra hour, meaning you can set them off until midnight.

Last year, a burn ban was in effect due to the excessive heat. However, just because there isn’t one this year, it doesn’t mean you should be careless in how you shoot them.

“Right now, we don’t have any type of burn ban due to the weather, but obviously that’s a fluid situation that can change depending on what happens in the next few weeks… we’ve had to do that in the past… The most important thing is to keep everybody… and their property safe,” Deputy Judge Executive Bryan Downing says.

He also mentions you are not able to shoot fireworks within 200 feet of a structure, vehicle or gathering of people.

He also says the best way to ruin a holiday is for someone to get hurt, so make sure to be extra safe while celebrating.
