Juneteenth Celebrations kick off this weekend!

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Wednesday, June 19th is Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S.

And one non-profit is going above and beyond to make sure that you can join in on the celebrations, no matter what age you are.

The BG Freedom Walkers have multiple events over the course of the next few days. Kicking off Friday at the Soky Marketplace with the 5th Annual Juneteenth Weekend Celebration and Black Vendor Market. Over 55 vendors are going to be set up starting tomorrow at 5:00 P.M.

But that’s not all the fun you can expect to see! There will also be a live DJ, a bouncy house for the kids, and food trucks to enjoy. The Black Vendor Market is open on Friday, June 14th from 5:00-9:00 P.M. and on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

The second annual Juneteenth Celebration Comedy Show is on Friday, from 6:30-9:00 P.M. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door of the Jaycee Pavillion. Six local comedians are in the lineup, featuring Kev the Comedian, Leno 615, and more.

Later that night at the Jaycee Pavillion is the first-ever Juneteenth Artist Showcase. Last month, the BG Freedom Walkers asked for artists or musicians to submit two songs to showcase their talents. Now, you can stop by the Pavillion at 9:30 P.M. and see that talent perform live!

You can start off your Sunday morning with the second annual Church on the Lawn. That starts at 10:30 A.M. on the Soky Fairgrounds, with a sermon from Reverand Ronald Ronnie Johnson.

Sunday night, from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the Jaycee Pavillion is the second annual Miss Juneteenth Pagent! Registration to participate in the event has closed but you can still come by for a day of community connection. There will be lawn games, food, and drinks available.

Finally, on Wednesday, June 19th, you can catch a free showing of “Hidden Figures” over at The Capitol Theatre at 6:30 P.M.
