City of Glasgow issues cannabis ordinance, city to vote
GLASGOW, Ky. – The City of Glasgow is discussing an ordinance regarding the sale of cannabis in the community.
This would prohibit sales of cannabis inside city limits.
The state of Kentucky passed a law in 2023, giving cities an option to adopt ordinances like this.
This ordinance does NOT prohibit the consumption of cannabis in the city. It simply means that dispensaries, cultivators or producers would not be allowed to operate within city limits.
This would also mean residents of Glasgow would have to drive to other cities to get cannabis if they need it.
We spoke to the planning director for the City of Glasgow, who explained how this would affect the community.
“There are only 48 total dispensaries for the entire state. Each region is only going to get four. The cultivators, there are only 16 total growers for all 120 counties. So as far as sales, you’re talking about one store potentially… one grower potentially,” Kevin Myatt says.
The state of Kentucky wants each resident to be within an hour of access to any medical cannabis.
