Logan County’s Jim Turner retires after 55 years
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – “Who in Logan County doesn’t know Jim Turner?” was prevailing theme at a legendary retirement party at the Logan County Extension Office.
Jim Turner has taught in the Russellville Schools system, Logan County Schools system, worked at WRUS Radio, taught at Southern Kentucky Community & Technical College as well as Western Kentucky University and has a wealth of local sports knowledge like no other.
Technically retiring from SKYCTC this year, the sports journalist has been at work a long time and finally had decided to hang up his hat.
Turner, 78 years old now, said that technology has gotten the best of him, but he’s more than happy with the run he’s had. He told News 40 that he wasn’t sure anyone would show up to his party thrown by his sons but was happy to see so many people come out who had nothing but good things to say about him and what he’s done for the community.
Over 55 years, Turner has written thousands of articles, instructed thousands of students and of course seen thousands of games.
