Safe Haven Baby Box is now open at BGFD Fire Station #8

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s the second one for Bowling Green, extending the reach of Safe Haven Baby Box in the community.

The Safe Haven Baby Box is a device that gives mothers anonymity and provides a safe option in the case of a child surrender. A second box was completed Friday, May 24 at the Bowling Green Fire Department’s Fire Station #8 located at 756 Glasgow Road in Bowling Green.

Monica Kelsey, founder and CEO for Safe Haven Baby Box was there for the blessing ceremony of the box and spoke briefly to News 40.

Kelsey said it was hard bringing the idea here to the United States when she saw it in Cape Town, South Africa.

“I had to convince people that a box was better than a dumpster. Any time there was a case of an abandoned baby, I’d post it, and then people started to understand we need this.”
