Warren County Regional Jail to implement peer support program

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Warren County Regional Jail has announced the approval of a contract with Help the Helpers, LLC to implement a peer support program for jail staff.

The peer support program will provide specialized training for staff during routine operational times, as well as critical incidents and emergency responses.

According to the jail, deputies that work within correctional facilities can experience “critical incidents, trauma, correctional fatigue and other effects of hyper vigilance daily.” The jail states this cumulative effect can be damaging, extending from the deputy to the entire team.

Every employee will be able to recognize the symptoms and effects of hypervigilance, the jail states.

The jail additionally states, “The greatest resource in any law enforcement agency is the staff.” By investing in staff with this program, the jail states they will all be better prepared to provide service to incarcerated individuals and the community.

According to Warren County jailer Stephen Harmon, this program should be available for staff members by fall.
