KSP trooper killed in collision in Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police has confirmed a KSP Post 2 trooper was killed in Tuesday’s crash in Warren County.

According to a release by KSP, trooper Jonathan Johnson, 48, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was involved in an off-duty fatal crash earlier Tuesday. The Warren County coroner pronounced Johnson dead at 10:48 a.m.

Authorities say Johnson was a nine-year veteran of the agency, assigned to Muhlenberg County. He graduated from Cadet Class 92 and served at both the Madisonville and Bowling Green posts during his tenure with the agency. He received the post-level Detective of the Year honor in 2019.

“Trooper Johnson served and protected Kentucky’s families through the Kentucky State Police and we are saddened by this loss,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Please join me in praying for the Johnson family and everyone at KSP.”

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Trooper Johnson, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash earlier today,” said KSP captain Derek Smith. “Our Post 2 personnel appreciate the outpouring of support and pray for the Johnson family as they cope with this devastating loss.”

Captain Smith advised that information regarding funeral arrangements will be released when available and that Post 2 will not be releasing any information regarding the crash investigation, as it is being handled by Post 3 in Bowling Green, where the incident occurred.

Johnson is survived by his wife and two children.
