Hilltoppers Fall to Louisville on Tuesday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – WKU Baseball (29-13, 11-4 CUSA) was defeated by Louisville (24-16, 9-9 ACC) 16-5 in seven innings on Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
Sophomore Dylan O’Connell stole second, third, and home to put WKU ahead 1-0 in the first, but the Cardinals plated 13 runs on 11 hits in the home half of the frame to take the lead. The Tops pitching staff held Louisville off the scoreboard for the next four innings while the WKU offense chipped away at the deficit with four runs to make it 13-5. The Cardinals got back on the board with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 16-5.
At the plate, junior Caleb Marmo blasted a two-run shot over the right field wall while sophomore Camden Ross plated a run with an RBI double and senior Jaylin Rae drove in a run with an RBI single.
On the mound, freshman Zach Lyles had back-to-back shutout innings and finished with one strikeout in 2.2 frames while allowing one run on four hits. Junior Patrick Morris was the most effective arm for the Tops as he shutout the Cardinals for 2.0 innings while only conceding two hits.
