Bowling Green Fire Department holds yearly Airport Training

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Fire Department got to learn a little more about the Warren County Regional Airport and do a few simulations in the process.

Their evening started with a classroom session to learn more about the runways and taxiways of the airport as well as how to respond in an actual emergency.

They then participated in three simulations: saving a man having a heart attack on a plane, helping a man who fell from a construction site and putting out an electrical fire.

BGFD stresses how important learning about this part of the community is, since it’s especially hard to get into the airport.

“We don’t want the first time we respond to an aircraft fire to be when we’re like ‘Oh, what are the taxiways? What are the runways?’ It’s really important for crews to stay on top of this information so whenever an incident does occur, they know exactly where to go and exactly what to do,” Katie McKee with the Bowling Green Fire Department says.

This is a yearly training that the fire department undergoes. There are three groups, so if firefighters are needed for a real emergency, they’re able to respond in a timely manner.
