Four Lady Toppers earn CUSA All-Academic Honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Four members of the WKU Women’s Golf team have been named to the CUSA All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday morning. Junior Catie Craig earned the First Team honors while Averi Cline, Sarah Arnold, and Sydney Hackett were named to the Second Team.

Craig has had one of the most impressive individual seasons in WKU history. The five-time CUSA Golfer of The Week earned two individual victories at the Jennifer Duke Invitational and the Spring Break Shootout. The Lady Topper junior has also finished in the top-five in eight of WKU’s nine tournaments played this year. She is currently on track to shatter the record for the best stroke average in WKU history with a 70.14 average. Craig has also set several new WKU records including lowest round (63), lowest 36-hole score (130), and lowest 54-hole score (201).

The Georgia native is currently majoring in horticulture. Earning a 4.0 GPA this year, this is Craig’s third time earning CUSA All-Academic honors.

Sarah Arnold has been a major contributor to the Lady Tops’ success this season. The Illinois native has logged five top-10 finishes for the Red and White. She currently holds a 71.9 stroke average. As WKU is gearing up for the CUSA Tournament, she has logged back-to-back top-10 finishes to close the regular season after finishing second in the Spring Break Shootout and tying for eighth in the Chattanooga Classic. It was a season of personal bests for Arnold as she set a personal record for the lowest round (66), lowest 36-hole score (134) and lowest 54-hole score (204).

The graduate student is pursuing a master’s degree in recreation and sports administration where she currently holds a 3.87 GPA. Last year, she earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management along with a minor in marketing.

This is Cline’s first selection to the All-Academic team. The sophomore has carved out a great role on Head Coach Adam Gary’s team. Cline has finished in the top-20 on three separate occasions. Cline holds a 74.9 stroke average. Her average is enough to tie her for 10th all-time in WKU history.

The Suwanee, Georgia native is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology and currently has a 3.91 GPA.

Sophomore Sydney Hackett has earned her second All-Academic Team nod following a great follow up to her award-winning freshman season. Hackett is coming off an impressive Chattanooga Classic Tournament where she tied for 15th. That marked her fourth top-20 finish of the year. The WKU sophomore finished her regular season with a 75.0 stroke average.

Hackett currently owns a 3.90 GPA as she is pursuing a bachelor’s in business finance.
