Final Round of The Peoples Championship cut short due to weather

ST SIMON’S ISLAND, Ga. – The final round of The Peoples Championship, hosted by Western Carolina was canceled due to weather. The final round was well underway as the Hilltoppers finished tied for 16th at the conclusion of the tournament.

Continuing his climb through the tournament, Riley Grindstaff climbed as high as 16th Saturday before the final round was canceled. Grindstaff put in three straight birdies on holes 14 through 16, helping him to a 2-under par score with two holes left to play before play was halted.

Luke Fuller garnered some momentum in the final round as well. Getting to as high as 27th before the cancelation of the final round. Fuller put in three birdies and met par 11 times in this final round. Fuller concluded his shortened round with a 1-under score.

Connery Meyer regained some ground after his second round set him back a bit. Meyer got to as high as 66th, but finished 79th as a result of the cancelation. His final round included two birdies. Meyer was only 2-over when the stoppage occurred and had momentum going into the final few holes of the tourney.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Nic Hofman finished 34th and still led the Hilltoppers throughout the tournament.

As a result of the third-round cancelation, the third-round scores are void and the results will include the scores through 36 holes.

The Tops will have a brief break before being back in action on the tail end of the month. WKU will travel to Mobile, Alabama as they will compete in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama. The three-day tournament will tee off March 23.
