Russellville High School hosting prom dress drive
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – At the Russellville High School on Saturday, March 9, students will be able to shop for prom attire for free thanks to a first year teacher.
Ali Steele, an exceptional educator at the high school, wanted to in her first year make as much of an impact as she could. Prom season was something special to her, so she wanted to make it special for students that she works with every day.
Steele said going shopping with her mom and friends was a memorable high school experience for her and knows that not everyone has the means to get a nice dress of tux, so she decided to take up donations.
Steele said she worked with the Family Resource & Youth Services office at the school to create a donation drive for prom wear. Over the past month and a half, they’ve been collecting gently used formal wear, and they’ll set up a shopping experience in the high school gym at 10 a.m.
The hope is that the students that might not have all the funds to attend prom can still have a special night just like she did back in high school. Steele and the resource office told us all students have to do is just show up and pick out what they want, all for free.
