Caretaker stole belongings after man’s death in Todd County, police say

ELKTON, Ky. – A man’s caretaker has been arrested after police say she stole items from his apartment following his death.

The City of Elkton Police Department says it arrested Maggie Bellamy-Beard, 67, on Wednesday after discovering through an investigation that she had stolen a wallet and other items after finding a male dead in an apartment.

Police say they were told by the man’s family about the missing items on Sunday. The male’s death was reported on Jan. 29 by his caretaker, Bellamy-Beard.

She faces charges of theft by unlawful taking and tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation is ongoing with further charges pending.
